Swimsuits That We Actually Look Forward To Wearing

As a woman, you are always wanting to feel good and confident in the clothes you are wearing.

This is extremely true when it comes to wearing your swimwear. Knowing how to choose the correct wholesale women’s clothing swimsuit can get you summer-ready and beach confident.

Here are some tips to help you identify which swimsuit will be most flattering for each body shape and how to get the most out of your summer wholesale clothing spree.

Best Swimsuits Based On Your Body Shape

Whether you are planning a family holiday, a girls trip, or looking for something to wear when visiting your local pool, here are some pointers on how to pick your swimsuits to boost your confidence, get heads turning, and make you want to show off your bath suit body.

Large Busted Babes

For you girls with a generously sized bust, the focus is to make sure those girls remain perky and securely in place.

By having them pert and held secure, they’ll be lifted, your stomach will appear smaller, and you will have the confidence of knowing they won’t be falling out.

Opting for a suit with wide straps will provide the lift desired. Underwriting and thick straps are also beneficial. Swimsuits with a thick strap and halter neck design are incredibly flattering.

Smaller Busted Ladies

Having a more petite bust means you have the luxury of considering other swimsuit styles from your favorite boutique clothing sites.

Some of the most flattering swimsuits have lower necklines that draw attention to your chest. In addition, having a twisted front gives you a plunging neckline and the ability to opt for padded or non-padded swimwear options.

When You Have Wide Hips

When you have a pear-shaped body, you want to choose a swimsuit that can balance out your top and bottom half.

Opting for a swimsuit that draws attention to your waist and bust will draw the eye to your most flattering parts.

Criss-crossed neck bathing suits are ideal for drawing attention to your top half and clinching your waist. Alternatively, ruffled necklines are another way to draw your attention away from your hips.

Best Way To Draw Attention From Your Tummy

Panels and drawing attention to your body sections of confidence are a must!

Through clever sections of color, your swimsuit can be used to elongate your body and mask the areas that you (perhaps) least want to show off.

Plunging necklines and additional detail are also beautiful ways to focus on your best assets.

The key is not to shy away from what you love. Instead, choose those bold colors, patterns, and additional decorative details. If you love what you are wearing, that will give you confidence and feel a million bucks each time you step out.

The real trick to finding a swimsuit that you want to wear repeatedly is focusing on how it makes you feel. You will radiate confidence and feel amazing every time if you feel comfortable.

I’ve linked some of the swimsuits and a cover up that I’ve been loving as well.

Always Remember You’re Beautiful!

Season 3 Episode 3 “The Final Step” Creating your “THAT GIRL” Evening Routine

Season 3 Episode 3 “The Final Step” Creating your “THAT GIRL” Evening Routine

LOLA: It’s still Black History Month so Happy Black History month y’all. I have really been learning a lot of things about Black history and just how much I didn’t learn in school about many things in our history that were just never taught and only learned after doing your own extensive deep dives to find information. But for the longest we wouldn’t even think to do that because what are you going to look for if you don’t know there’s something you need to look for, ya know? But the girls I’ve watched on TikTok have been killing it with the creative videos sharing black history and really TikTok has been my favorite place to be once again. I loved it and played around with it during the pandemic and I’m back into it again and I recently stumbled upon blackgirltiktok, regularblackgirltiktok, and blackgirlluxurytiktok and I’m loving it all. I’ve been trying to really curate my social media feeds to things that inspire me and that I love rather than things that make me sad or just don’t fit the vibe I’m trying to go with. I also learned I think either through TikTok or Facebook about a murder that I hadn’t even heard about until it popped up on social media which is the Lauren Smith-Fields’ Bumble Date case.

It’s such a crazy case and the way the authorities and everyone in charge to find her murderer and bring justice just absolutely have dropped the ball. It’s so hard to find information about the case and I feel like if Cardi B didn’t say something about it on Twitter we probably still wouldn’t have known. She was a beautiful black college educated, goal-oriented woman who was very close with her family especially her mother. She was on YouTube and I watched a little of some of her videos and she seemed like such a cool and down to earth chic. But sadly, she met a white male on Bumble for a date and was then found deceased in her apartment, her family wasn’t even notified by police or authorities of any kind, they found out from a note stuck to Laurens’s apartment door that told them to contact police If they were looking for Lauren. Her cause of death was ruled “an accident” and that she died of a combination of fentanyl, other drugs, and alcohol. Lauren was not a drug user so this combination on a night that she was just meeting someone doesn’t even make sense. The man she went on a date with who claimed they did not sleep together though a used condom with semen inside was found at the scene and he was the one who called 911 when he claimed he got up to use the bathroom and Lauren was unresponsive and bleeding from her nose a little. He wasn’t even detained at the scene y’all.

He was seen as a “nice guy” by the police so he wasn’t even questioned. No evidence was taken, no DNA swabs, nothing. There’s talk that he has friends on the force or with high ups which would not surprise me one bit considering he just skipped off scot free. Whether he killed Lauren or not his story of that night is sketchy as hell and just doesn’t add up. The proper protocol was not followed at all. So, let’s keep spreading the word about Laurens’s murder so her killer can be found and her family can receive some justice for the loss of their loved one and she can finally rest in peace.

LOLA: Hey y’all and welcome back to the podcast. If this is your first episode of the podcast, hello and welcome. I’m Lola and I’m so glad you’re here. We’re working on our nightly routine today as the last step of our That Girl daily routine plan.

One thing I have been doing because like I said your daily routine needs to be tailored to you. Don’t just follow along with what someone else is doing just because it looks good or it works for them. You have to make sure you’re implementing things that are going to be conducive to your growth and things that you’re also going to want to stick to. So, for me, I don’t necessarily journal every morning or meditate regularly so to speak. Sometimes my morning routine consists of me putting on music I like or a podcast and starting my day that way. Something that gets me in the mood to start the day. I was listening to Morning Rae podcast with Allana Blumberg and she was talking about the Mood playlist on apple podcast.

I checked that out one day while I was cleaning and I actually really like that playlist, it’s been my go-to for everything from driving, working, and cleaning so thanks for the rec girl, lol. I usually listen to a lot of r n b, some hip hop, country, and old school and when I say old school I mean like Al Green old school, lol. I also listen to a lot of DJ Shale old school mixes on SoundCloud. Her playlists are bomb af. I don’t really listen to the radio or satellite radio at all. I can’t stand the fact that they play the same songs on a loop repetitively. I’ve heard Adele’s song 50 million times and its haunting at this point, lmao. So, I listen to a lot of playlists and mixes. I don’t really change my music for my kids but I also won’t play Half on a sack with my 7 yr. old in the car ya know what I mean? Lol So if you have some playlist suggestions let me know. I also add all of my oldest daughter Bryannas playlists to my apple music and Spotify because she keeps me up to date on the new good music, lol.

LOLA: Ok, y’all I’m back and today we’re going over the last steps of developing our THAT GIRL motivation plan. We’ve already gotten the morning routine, AM/PM Work routine, and now were getting into the evening routine today. The last and final part to the day that will help you end out a successful day with less stress and help you prepare for tomorrow. I had to work on my night time routine for sure because it was all over the place. It’s still a little shaky but I’m working with my new THAT GIRL routine just like y’all so we can do this together. My husband works late sometimes and were both night owls by default so naturally going to bed late has stuck with us since our teen years. But ending your day in a thoughtful and effective way is just as important as starting it out well.

Your evening routine should support your goals and help you set up for the following day. One thing that I find to be very efficient, whether you have kids or not is getting my outfits out for the week. I did this even when I was single and had no kids. It’s just a really efficient time saver and can really help relieve stress because it’s a bunch of things you don’t have to worry about. Being an influencer and working on sets for things has shown me that preparation is certainly key. Having your outfit out for the next day is just one less thing you have to worry about for the day. One more thing that’s out of your mind so you have less thought clutter and less to brain dump. Usually when I work in a salon since we do full body waxing, brows, lashes, etc. we usually wear uniforms. Even when I worked for myself doing lashes, I wore scrubs so that way it was easier when I was getting ready for work. No fuss or confusion because my work outfit was already decided. So even if you don’t wear a uniform for work or whatever, you can still pick out your clothes for the week and that way all you have to do is get up, get dressed, and go. It makes a world of difference when you have kids also.

I usually like to do everything I need to do to prepare for the next day before I shower and get into my night clothes. Mainly because I want to be done with everything and be able to shower, do a face mask, and relax and watch tv or something before bed. But again, everyone’s routine is different so whatever works for you first that’s how you’re going to work out your routine.

LOLA: So, let’s go over the steps for your evening routine and then we can go into what or how you want to arrange your routine. In your evening routine you want to relax, spend time on a hobby, choose your clothes for the next day, learn something that will further your career, review your to-do list, review your goals, and go to bed on time. As I said I like to unwind and watch a show or something before bed. So, find something that provides mental relaxation for you and do that. Reading, watching tv, listening to music or podcasts, taking a walk. Whatever you like to do to relax just do that.

Being successful also comes with having some leisure time. You can’t just work all the time; you need to do something you enjoy doing and that relaxes you too. Spending time on a hobby you genuinely enjoy is important. Learn a new hobby if you don’t have one currently, take a painting class or something. Just think outside the box.

You want to get your ducks in a row for the next day. So, like I said for me I like to get my clothes together, my kid’s clothes together, and then review my to-do list and any goals that I have planned for the next day. I like to get all the technical stuff out of the way before the relaxing. That way I can journal at night as well if I didn’t get to do it in the morning or chose not to or whatever. I can go in and write anything down that’s on my mind and then I can go into relaxing.

AUDIBLE AD: Lola: Do you love reading but don’t have time to sit down and read a good book? Well, we all know I love audible. I share books on the podcast all the time and I talk about audible a lot.

I solved my reading problem with Audible about 4 years ago. I love to multitask and It’s been amazing to still keep up with my book list while checking off my to-do list. it’s perfect because they offer books that are narrated by professional voice actors and sometimes even the authors themselves. You can listen while driving, cooking, cleaning, or doing anything else that you need your hands free for.

It’s like having a Personal Assistant who reads to you whenever you want, think Diddy and his umbrella holding manservant but with books. With the new update they even have podcasts, sleep meditations, and more now.

There really is something for everyone and the best part is it doesn’t cost you anything to start. You can click the link in the show notes to sign up today and get 30 days and your first book free.

All of their books are DRM free which means they aren’t locking them away from other devices so even if your subscription expires or you cancel it you can still keep and access the books you’ve already purchased. Just download them again from anywhere anytime. There are over 180 thousand titles available to choose from and I’m sure that number will just keep growing.

You can even follow the awkward Mom Stage on audible now. So go get started on that reading list but let’s wait until after the show…

LOLA: Getting to bed on time has been my biggest obstacle. As I’ve said many times, I am a night owl and it’s hard for me to just turn it off at night. Especially if things are still going on downstairs or my husband is still awake. I stay up because he’s still up but I need to change that because we do not run off the same schedules or do the same things during the day so we clearly need different sleep schedules. So, I have to start back to getting in bed by 11pm. Which actually is funny because my husband wants to get back to going to bed at 11 too so I mean I guess that’s good for both of us but, I did the calculations and time experiments last year to see when I needed to get in the bed and everything to get the sleep that I need for the next day and for me not to feel tired the next day. 11pm was the time that seems to work well for me to be able to get up at 7 and start my day and be able to continue through it without feeling exhausted mid-morning.

You want to create your day with a routine that makes having a successful day more likely. So, consider your goals and responsibilities at work and then develop a routine that supports those endeavors. While others are wasting their free and downtime scrolling, you’re laying the foundation to getting ahead and achieving your goals faster and easier.

“Success or failure depends more upon attitude than upon capacity. Successful men act as though they have accomplished or are enjoying something. Soon it becomes a reality. Act, look, feel successful, conduct yourself accordingly, and you will be amazed at the positive results.” -William James

My THAT GIRL persona is definitely something I am focused on this year because I have so many plans, goals, and dreams that I would like to achieve and the only way to do that is to make sure that you have a routine that embodies the success that you are trying to build for yourself. I was always full of excuses and reasons why I couldn’t get anything done but the truth was that I couldn’t really get anything done because I was too busy wasting time doing other things that could have been done later or really could have been done in a matter of minutes, I was just dragging them out or procrastinating. It’s funny because were always yelling at our kids to do certain things and then we realize like hey my kids just like me because I definitely do that now as an adult, lmao.

Obviously, our routines and lives aren’t going to change overnight. They also aren’t going to just start going great magically. Just this morning I was hit with an unexpected bill and even though I had a productive morning and my routine was going well, shit I didn’t like still happened. I think that’s something else we have to work on as well which is we get so pissed off about something that didn’t go our way were ready to just throw in the towel after that and just say well damn this day sucks when it’s like no today doesn’t suck this situation sucks. This obstacle I have to get over sucks but I was actually just able to pay the bill though I was annoyed af about it and I know that bitchy customer service agent could have fixed my issue but she just didn’t want to because I feel like customer service workers depending on what profession they’re in are like the absolute shittiest people of life man, I’m sorry but if you have a terrible attitude at your job just fucking quit. Do us all a favor and find a job that doesn’t involve you talking to people because you suck at it.

But anyway, that was just me ranting about terrible customer service reps. Also, don’t come for me because I’ve been a customer service rep more than once for years out of my life and I would never speak to my customers the way some of these reps’ act like these people are pulling credit cards out the reps’ pocket, lmao.

Anyway, I guess I went on that rant just to say that having a good routine doesn’t mean that everything will always be perfect or run smooth but it will help you to get through those rocky patches a little easier because you were already prepared in your day for everything else you had to encounter. When you have less things on your mind weighing your thought process down then its easier to get and stay on track and to catch yourself when you’re caught off guard.

If you develop a routine that’s geared towards supporting your success and repeating them daily that almost guarantees success in the continent of your life that repeats it’s worthy of a routine basically if you keep doing something repetitively it will become a habit and you now have a new routine. The period of time before work sets the stage for the rest of the day the pre-work routine can ensure that you arrive to work on time, you’re motivated your energetic, you’re looking and feeling your best. Contrast you’re that girl attitude and appearance and your productivity and everyone’s gonna be looking like oh OK so her positivity easily stand out and she’s clearly here to work and not play games. Your work morning is an optimal time to gather information and strategically apply it to the rest of your day handle your daily tasks quickly and on time communicate with your team boss peers whoever it is that you work for or with or if you’re at home.

You want to use your late afternoons to tie up loose ends, take care of business that doesn’t require a lot of preparation for the following day, you know basically wrap up your day so that way when you head home you can focus more on family things or hobbies or literally anything other than work for the remainder of the day. So, you want to ensure you’re spending at least a part of your evening on an enjoyable activity don’t swamp yourself with work and stress. Overall, your routine supports your goals. You should have a set of goals prior to developing your various routines so that way it’s easier for you to develop the routine if you don’t have anything to put on a schedule then you can’t schedule anything. 30 minutes is a small price to pay for success you’re already spending the time complaining about how you don’t have the time so spend the time in a way that’s going to positively impact and enhance your life.

“Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” -Orison Swett Marden

LOLA: I know that the “that girl” trend and even the organization and cleaning thing has been getting a lot of shit from other people. Like there’s this battle online of moms who don’t clean or have a shit ton of clutter or whatever and they basically are like the ones that organize and clean are fake and that’s not real life and it’s like the reality is that it is real life. It’s just not real life for you. There are people, myself included who do not like clutter and whether we have kids or not we like to take the time to clean. Now I won’t sit and say that my house is pristine because it’s not by any means. But I take the time to clean, declutter, organize, donate, minimalize, etc. If you don’t mind clutter that’s fine, if you feel like you don’t need to wash clothes for a month, that’s fine but don’t shit on those who do not live that way and don’t want to. It doesn’t mean they don’t love their kids because they spent time cleaning, lmao. Most of the time they do it while their kids are preoccupied or at school or whatever. But this like clutter is cool, I only shower twice a week, normalize everyone being chaotic. No, if you can take the time to talk shit on an app then you can clean your damn house and shower, simple as that. If that’s not what you want to do fine but for the ones that don’t, they are no less “real” than you are.

We’re supposed to be in a time where we uplift women and stand by each other and it seems that I see more and more women trying to tear each other down for literally everything. You won’t get anywhere by being a pick me boo, I promise. They will still treat you the same, lol.

LOLA: Alright y’all that’s it for today’s episode. Once again were ending the podcast off with something were grateful for and for me this week, I am grateful for a safe trip to and from Florida this past week over the little break that we had. My oldest daughter had dance nationals and it was so fun to watch her and her teammates. They did amazing and I’m so proud. So, yea that’s what I am grateful for this week just getting to love on and support my babies in their art and dreams. I also loved it because there was some girl power themed dances and it was really great. I loved watching the girls cheer each other on and lift each other up. It’s crazy that children can behave better than adults sometimes and I love the fact that this generation is becoming more self-aware and more caring towards each other’s feelings. Self- love and self- care are becoming more mainstream and that’s another thing that baffles me about the organizing and that girl trend hating that’s happening is because why the hell are we discouraging healthy living and cleanliness? It’s considered fake now to want to have a clean home, exercise, obedient pets, an organized fridge that’s not filled with food that went back 6 months ago.

Like instead be glad the trend is waking up early and cleaning and not tide pods ya know. Obviously, it’s not everywhere and we have a long way to go but it shows it’s still possible to not be terrible people in the world, especially to each other. I think women especially black women get beat on in the world enough. Not just physically but mentally, emotionally, financially. We have heavy burdens laid on us daily and expectations placed on us by men who aren’t even capable of half of the things we are. We’ve had laws placed on our bodies and blocked from things simply because were women. They rush us to get married and have children young only to then throw us to the waste side when we’re no longer what they want or need. But we would never get that credit from them because they didn’t even want us to vote. But, that’s another fight for another day. I hope you enjoyed this little THAT GIRL series.

This year is all about empowerment and building the life you want. A good routine certainly Is at the top of the list of things you need to be that bitch, ok? Lol. Next week I’m sitting down and going over all the books and podcasts that I’ve been listening to and loving. All the things that are helping build a THAT GIRL mentality and helping to build healthy habits, self- love, and happiness. I’m also working on the next series I’m going to do on the podcast and I’m booking guests for season 3 of the podcast as well so stay tuned for that. I will keep you updated on social media as well.

Season 3 Episode 2 “Let’s Get to Work” Building your THAT GIRL work routine

Season 3 Episode 2 “Let’s Get to Work” Building your THAT GIRL work routine

LOLA: Ya girl did dry January, I totally forgot to mention that when we started that this year. But yeah, I went an entire month without alcohol at all. Now I wasn’t a huge drinker but like wine has a lot of sugar in it for one thing and for 2 I just wanted to see if I could do it and I did. No drinks at dinner, no wine at home, I was without alcohol and I actually didn’t mind it. I honestly, I kinda forgot about alcohol for a minute. Like I was just ordering regular drinks and stuff at the restaurants and like I would only think about it or remember it when I was in the store and there was like a sale on some good wine or something. I would be like oh that wine is good but then I would be like nope it’s dry January. But yeah, I did dry January and it did save me like a few bucks in the month and the hubby when we went out to dinner , lol…

Podcast Intro: Grab yourself a glass of water or wine whichever suites your day and get ready cause The Awkward Mom Stage starts now….

Um, I guess I’m what they call sober curious, here we go with them trend names again. But yeah, I’m not an alcoholic, I don’t have a problem with alcohol though through quarantine we did get real close, lol. I wasn’t trying to get sober per say I was just curious to see how my body ya know and everything would feel without it if I sustained and honestly, I feel fine ya know. I actually have less headaches and all of that so I didn’t plan on cutting alcohol out of my life forever I just ya know wanted to see if I could do it. And I did it and I wasn’t one of those like obnoxious dry January people where I like told literally everyone because again, I forgot, lol. So, like, I forgot I was doing dry January I had so much other stuff going on that ya girl wasn’t even thinking about it. So yeah that’s, that’s what I’ve been up to ya know. I mean the less headaches thing could also be because of my blue light glasses but we’re just going to take all the wins that we can, right?

“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.” – Swami Vivekananda

LOLA: Hey y’all and welcome back to the podcast. If this is your first episode of the podcast, hello and welcome. I’m Lola and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m back and today we’re talking all about building a work routine that’s in line with our THAT GIRL motivation plan. Now we all know I hate trendy names but again, like I said in the last episode. You gotta take these names with a grain of salt. Last week we went over how to build a morning routine that works for you so today were going to continue on with the next steps of your day after your morning routine is done. Which would be either going to work or starting your day at home. Whatever it is, having a schedule helps move things along and keep you on track and on time.

Building a work routine is important because you want your work life to be just as smooth as your morning routine. Obviously, you don’t have to schedule every second of your days but scheduling the important stuff is what you should focus on. Everyone’s work routines are going to be different. A store manager isn’t going to have the same routine as a truck driver. But it’s important nonetheless that everyone has some sort of schedule to follow. Otherwise, things aren’t getting done like they need to or they’re getting done late or incorrectly.

So having a routine or schedule will help things get done. It’s also easier when you break your workday down into Morning Work routine and afternoon routine. AM and PM if you will.

LOLA: Now let’s say you work in an office or some office type job whether you are currently in the office or working from home, right? Your routine is going to look something like: Get into work, chat with your supervisor or whoever, check your emails, check your voicemails, update your work to-do list and alter it to reflect that morning’s conversations and messages. You have to make sure your list is still prioritized and prepare for any meetings or conference calls you may have. Then before or after the meeting get to work on your first to-do list item. When you get important work done early in the day it creates a good momentum for the rest of the day. It’s also a less stressful day because you’ve already gotten over some urgent humps that you otherwise would have procrastinated on or possibly not gotten done at all that day.

“The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.” -Robert Kiyosaki

You’re going to model your day based on your daily work tasks and the things you have to do in your work day. Like for me since I work from home and I’m also a stay-at-home mom my schedule is obviously going to look much different than someone running a billion-dollar business on the day to day. So, I would model my day a little different. For me I wake up at 7, do my morning routine, put on the headspace meditation show on Netflix and I make my kids breakfast. I wake them up and get them eating breakfast and then its brush teeth and get dressed and were out the door and when I get back more than likely I’ll have coffee or tea and then head into my office to start my task lists for the day. So, my “Work AM” is going to look different than someone in an office would.

LOLA: So, once you’ve gone through your morning work routine it’s time to move onto the afternoon or PM work routine. This is the part of the day where we’re wrapping things up for the day you want to start closing out the day. You want to tie up any loose ends like getting things off your desk or finishing any tasks that can be completed by the end of the day. That way they’re completed, out of the way, and out of your mind. You want to create a new to-do list with the things that you didn’t get done and tasks that need to get done the next day. There may be some things that you didn’t get to today that you’ll put on your to-do list for the next day but those will then go into the priority box for the next day. Just make sure your to-do list is prioritized just like it was for this day. You want to make sure you highlight the 3-5 most important tasks so that you can work on those first and foremost and move on from there.

Then you’re going to check in with your boss and or co-workers if you are working on a group project or something like that or maybe you need something signed off on whatever that is because you want to get that done before people start leaving the office because we all know, people be looking at that clock and 4:57 and they got their purse in hand ready to walk out the door so you want to make sure that you have everything wrapped up, preferably before 4:30 because people are trying to get out that office. Update your list, clean off your desk so there isn’t crazy clutter coming into the next day. I feel like you always feel more stressed out when you walk in your office and there’s like a bunch of crap everywhere cause you’re like damn what do I have to do, or what didn’t’ I do, or what did I already do? It’s a hot mess so you want to make sure that things are clear for the next day.

AUDIBLE AD: Do you love reading but don’t have time to sit down and read a good book?

There’s over 180 thousand titles available to choose from and I’m sure that number will just keep growing.

You can even follow the awkward Mom Stage on audible now. So go get started on that reading list but let’s wait until after the show…

LOLA: You kind of wanna, it’s easier if you just like schedule 10-15 mins at the end of your day to clean up your clutter, then you don’t have to worry about it at all in your work day. You can just work until it’s time to stop, get your little 10-15 minutes of straightening up in and then dip out the door. That way (work hack y’all) if your boss walks by close to the end of the day and you aren’t trying to start something new, you look busy cause you’re cleaning up for your last 15 minutes, see you’re welcome.

Anyway, you want to do your last email and voicemail checks, say goodbye to co-workers if you want to or just run out the door so nobody asks you nothing, idk. You wanna unplug for the day. Your PM work routine is going to look different than your AM routine and it’s going to look different than everyone else’s based on what you do on a daily basis. we just adjust our routines accordingly.

Now if you still have some sort of commute home than you want to make the most of your trip home. Whether you drive, take the bus, subway, uber, whatever, or you’re already at home. If you have a significant amount of time at your disposal you want to use it to your advantage. Like for me my work routine before I was at home, I had about a good 35-minute drive home and to work so my routine in the morning driving to and from work I had about an hour to and from to do other things. So, you could use the time to listen to an audiobook (y’all know I love audiobooks, Audible is my jam) but listening to a book about the career you’re trying to break into or maybe a self-help book or maybe you’re listening to music to wind down from the day. You just want to ensure that you’re taking the time to use the ride home as effectively as possible. For me that was my winddown time. So, you want to find something that helps you relax. For me I do love a good true crime podcast when I’m not listening to self-help or improvement or something like that.

LOLA: Basically, if you take the end of your work day to make a routine that helps you wind down and clear out for the day it also will help you relax, feel less stressed, and also unplug from the work day. Then when you go into the office the next day, you’re in a clean and clear environment and it will also boost your mood and productivity as well.

“Success depends upon previous preparation, and without such preparation there is sure to be failure.” -Confucius

LOLA: The best way to have a successful and efficient work routine is to do a few things to eliminate any distractions. You want to get started on your day quickly. You don’t want to drag on and waste time before starting so a few tips to keep the day moving efficiently would be to get started quickly. Once you start your day, keep that momentum going throughout the work day. Momentum is hard to get back once you stop. So, flopping down at your desk and “taking a breather” isn’t going to work if you want to maintain the momentum throughout your work day. You want to avoid isolating yourself, make sure if you’re working with other people that you keep the communication open, don’t like just ignore everybody, lol and remember the further up the ladder you travel at work, the more important communication becomes. Also, avoid distractions, don’t open that TikTok your homegirl sent you until lunch time because you know you’re just going to open it and it’s just going to turn into you scrolling on TikTok for 2 hours at your desk and you got nothing done. You want to focus on work and limit the distractions and let everybody else waste their time. You’ll get to catch up on all the gossip during lunch or after work and you won’t have to stress about what you didn’t get to at work or what you forgot.

There’s also a thing where we we’ve become addicted to being “busy” like being busy and hating Mondays was like the hot topic of the year I feel, lol. All kinds of merch being made that had something to do with being super busy and being busy hating Mondays, idk. But you don’t want to confuse being busy with actually being effective. Many of us could work half as much and get twice as much done with just a little focus and prioritization.

Ok, so y’all knew it was going to come up again. It’s probably gonna come up a lot but all I’m saying is hear me out. Get a little exercise. I know I know how dare I but seriously we should definitely get a little exercise. If the movie Wall E taught us nothing, it showed that we should be moving our bodies otherwise we will end up immobile and bloated little beach ball people and nobody really wants that ya know? I just downloaded this new fitness app. I’ll see how I like it and I’ll let you know what I think. I wanna start doing the yoga classes they have that on the app. Plus it was like two months free so I was like bet, lol. But anyway, some sort of fitness is not only good for you but it boosts your endorphins, helps blood flow, brain function, and a bunch of other stuff an actual fitness and nutrition specialist can tell you all about because that’s definitely not me.

You want to keep all this in mind when you’re creating your work routine. Take everything you have to do in a day into account. Write that down, then look at the tasks you have to get done, and then the things you would like to start doing or implementing into your daily routine. Once you have it all down then you want to begin putting everything together. You can then start prioritizing that list and that’s how you’re going to create your daily routine for the morning and it just kind of flows right into the work day as well.

Alright, so let’s recap, after you’ve done your morning routine, you can go into your work routine and keep that momentum going throughout the day so that way you’re more productive, things run a lot smoother, and you get more of the important stuff done on time.

“You don’t have to be a genius or a visionary or even a college graduate to be successful. You just need a framework and a dream.” -Michael Dell

Next week we’re wrapping up building our New Year “THAT GIRL” routine. We have our Morning routine, our AM/PM Work Routine, and next Friday we will be building our Evening Routine which aside from your morning routine I feel like the evening routine is also just as important. It’s the time you take to get ready for the next day and it helps to have a smooth evening routine so that way you can decompress from the day and ease your mind before bed.

LOLA: Ok, this episode was a little shorter than last week and I think that’s also because the morning and evening routines are the ones you kind of have to tailor to you the most. Because like I said our work routines or what we do during work hours on a daily basis for the majority of us is going to be the same stuff day after day because it’s already a routine.

You already know what you’re doing. Like, unless you just got a new job or something there’s no need to kinda like make a work routine because you already have one. It’s just going to be about making sure your routine is working for you and getting all the things you need to get completed in your work day. So, it’s more creating habit in your mind for everything else, like remembering your skincare or journaling or something. Maybe you want to start a side hustle and you’re trying…

Oh, here comes Brooklen jingling her little collar, probably asking me to take her outside. Let me go take her outside, lol.

LOLA: Ok, I’m back. So, as I was saying. Maybe you want to start a side hustle and you’re trying to find time in the day. Having your routine and goals laid out in front of you is the best way to see what you’re currently doing. That way you can assess when you need to change things in your routine to match what your goals are.

LOLA: So, I hope this little mini-series really helps you start to building the life and routine you really want. Just please remember to be kind to yourself. We are all trying and beating yourself up is defiantly not going to help. I was the worst with negative self-talk. I’m still learning to be better to myself but I’ve been really trying to work on my positive self-talk. I know the positivity movement is another thing that’s been kind of like toxic in a way sometimes because it becomes kind of like overly outrageous positivity and it’s like no that’s not what I’m talking about. Talking yourself up and making sure that you feel confident and having positive self-talk is definitely going to help your health mentality and physically over time. I don’t think we realize just how much negative self-talk hurts us.

LOLA: Alright, so like I said every week we will be ending the podcast on a positive. So, what are y’all Grateful for this week? For me this week I’m definitely grateful, even though Amazon has made me mad, I’m still grateful for Amazon Prime. Because, even though I need to stay off of it, Amazon be hookin ya girl up with the stuff she needs on time. So, yeah that’s what I’m grateful for. Totally a first world grateful thing but yeah like we get toilet paper, we get household stuff, we get everything from Amazon now. Like, I don’t leave my house if I don’t have to, lol.

BUZZSPROUT AD: Do you wanna start a podcast but you don’t know where to start? As the host and producer of this podcast I can tell you it’s definitely not easy. When I started out I had absolutely no idea what I was doing or where to start. Actually, I still kinda don’t know what I’m doing, LOL.

Season 3 Episode 1 “Hello New Year! Let’s Build a Morning Routine”

Season 3 Episode 1 “Hello New Year! Let’s Build a Morning Routine”

LOLA: We are in a whole new year and I’m not even going to go into the whole oh my gosh I can’t believe it’s a whole new year blah blah blah. We all know it’s 2022, so let’s just see how this year shakes out. It’s 3 days away from valentine’s day and I’m coming back in the month of love. Makes sense cause this podcast is all about loving yourself, lol. Do y’all celebrate the holiday? Is it really a holiday, lol? I feel like candy companies definitely are behind this holiday as well as a few others, lol. I really only love the adorable target décor and Brach’s valentines’ hearts, and of course chocolate. But ya girl won’t say no to a gift especially if its jewelry or something on my wish list, lmao.

Podcast Intro…

LOLA: Hey y’all and welcome back to the podcast! If this is your first episode, hello and welcome! I’m Lola and I’m glad you’re here.

I hate trendy names like Boss Babe, THAT GIRL, whatever, whatever, it’s way too many trends and names for shit nowadays but nevertheless, the kind of life I’m trying to live according to the internet is called being THAT GIRL. Ok whatever, a lot of these trendy names are just for the hype but for those that actually wanna do the work to actually live that aesthetic then here we go. Every other year it’s like you’re either setting resolutions, making promises to yourself and Facebook. I’m not doing any of that this year. It’s usually like this is gonna be my year and then as we’ve seen for the last like what 2-3 years running now it ain’t been nobody’s year really, lol. Yes, there’s definitely been some triumphs and wins but let me tell you the world has definitely seen some failures.

Between a pandemic and all these weird TikTok challenges kids are doing now and just all the craziness that has been flowing through the world in the last few years it’s just been a hot mess. So, for 2022 I’m not going to be out here like oh I’m setting these resolutions, I’m going to do this by this date, no. I learned a lot about myself this past year in 2021. I also learned that I have to stop pointing the blame when things don’t go my way if I haven’t done all the things, I need to do in order to get what I want. Because when I really look back and think about it. I haven’t done all that I can to get where I want to be. Some of the time I had a pity party for myself. Which clearly helped nothing. So instead of pointing blame and setting resolutions I’m not going to follow through on. I’m writing down the things that I want to accomplish this year, creating my vision boards on Pinterest and in my planner and I’m going to work towards those things this year.

I feel like we put a lot more pressure on ourselves also when we focus super hard on the word “resolutions“ because everyone’s like well it’s a New Year’s resolution so I have to do it, I already said I would, I told everybody and after that it kind of becomes a chore because it’s sort of expected in a way because you’ve already said it and you already put it out there and you ran your trap about it 400 times and you said you were going to get that gym membership so now you have to do it and now it just becomes one more thing that’s a chore or a to-do rather than something that you want to do to help change or better your life.

I took time to reflect. I found some new books, I put together a new daily routine, and I plan on holding myself to it to see how I do. If I wanna become THAT GIRL this year than the excuses and bs gotta go. Which means no more staying up Hella late just because hubby is still awake or playing around and procrastinating scrolling on my phone in the mornings before I peel myself out of bed for the day.
I don’t want to hate mornings or Mondays. I don’t know why that became such a norm thing. Like ugh, I have to wake up again?! There’s a new week again?! Like your life is definitely going to be much more intolerable if you look at everything as chore rather than a blessing or a chance for a new start. I think hating Mondays really just comes from the 9-5 grind. People having to get up and go to jobs they hate or they may love the job but can’t stand their coworkers or boss. Maybe it’s a stay-at-home parent who can’t tell days from nights anymore from sleep deprivation. Maybe you’re caring for a sick or elderly family member or friend and the days and times are blurring together. But whatever it is, hating Monday’s is like a worldwide known phenomenon, lol. T-shirts, mugs, etc. all collectively hating 1 day in the week. But I want to love Monday’s just like every other day of the week. I want to love my life and to do those things you gotta change your attitude about your life in general.

I took the month of January to just reboot. I did the annoying thing they tell you to do with your computer. You know, I turned it off and turned it back on so to speak, lol. I hit that reset button because honestly shit was getting chaotic, especially in my brain. My adhd was on 100 and I was feeling so overwhelmed and exhausted. I couldn’t get anything done fully. My household things got done but they were done so sporadically. I felt like a robot. Just kind of going with the notions you know? My business was just kind of hanging there, my blog had been non-existent, I have a stack of books I need to start and finish reading, an online class I need to finish taking, my social media was like a smorgasbord of everything, and the podcast needed work too. But I just couldn’t get my mind right. The more I tried to fix things, the more chaotic things became in my mind. Like when you try and wipe glitter off the table and even though you have a wet rag and kept it all in a neat pile under the rag you somehow got glitter all over the palm of your hand and the more you try and get rid of it the more glitter appears everywhere. Yeah, that was my brain, a billion tabs open and idk where the music is coming from. Anxiety was a real bitch for me, lol.

So, I decided that I needed a redo, a refresh so to speak and what better time to do it then the beginning of a new year? So, I’m doing a few things to change my habits for good. If I want things to change, grow, and be better than I have to be the one to make those changes. So, starting a better and healthier routine is what I plan on doing.

The pandemic as a whole from start to finish just demolished any sort of schedule I had at one point. With no one going into work, my kids in and out of digital learning days, and everything else happening in the mix it’s a wonder many of us aren’t in strait jackets, lol. So, I’ve been doing some research, reading up on ways to change my routine. One book that I started reading to start the year is Atomic Habits by James Clear. The introduction has been interesting and now I’m about to get into chapter one so when I finish the book, I’ll share it to see if anything in it has helped me. But aside from that, clearly a routine is necessary. Like it’s real childish to me when adults don’t want to follow any sort of schedule. Whether you work from home, you’re a stay-at-home parent, or your self-employed everyone needs some sort of schedule. For me I thrive much better on a schedule but lately I’ve totally fallen off of that which is why my brain is a mess.

Some routines can be more successful than others. For me when I put too many things on a schedule it can be overwhelming. So, the key is to make sure your routine works for you and is something you’re going to follow through on is making sure it fits you. Routines are important because most of success is the result of small actions over long periods of time. It’s not possible to rise to the top in a week, unless you go viral on the internet or something, lol. But it’s much easier to have more exciting results with a more effective routine. If you think about the segments of your life that are repeated daily like going to work either in an office or at home. There’s getting ready for work, the first part of work, the last part of work, and then your evening routine. The segments of your day may not be “work” so to speak. Maybe you’re in grade school, maybe you’re about to go to college or you’re already there. Whatever your routine, think of the things you have to do on a daily basis, you already have these as a routine so you just need to work on the rest of the goals you want to achieve and find a way to work those into your routine.

When you think about developing a new habit or routine a lot of times people automatically assuming it’s going to be some time consuming, life altering thing when it’s really just small things that are 2-30 minutes long. The benefit of 30-minute routines over months and years is amazing. Consistently being on time, prepared, and spending your time intelligently and productively separates the successful from the average. One thing that’s constantly said is “I don’t have the time” but realistically, if you think you can’t spare the time, keep in mind that you’re already spending the time, lol. You also already have routines. If you purposefully construct routines that make sense it will be much more effective.

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”

-Vince Lombardi

LOLA: First things first in creating a routine that works for you is just that, getting a routine that in fact works for YOU. A medical student isn’t going to have the same routine as an office worker, just like a professional athlete wouldn’t have the same routine as a professional gamer. Everyone has a different schedule or priorities so a tailored routine is the best way to get where you’re trying to be. If you aren’t clear on your goals yet, then you need to take the time to give them some thought. If you break down your goals then it will be easier to work towards them and you can see your progress too.

So, let’s start by breaking your goals down into 4 categories: Health/Fitness, Finances, Career, and Relationships. You can include any other categories or areas in your life that are important to you but these are the usually the main ones. So, let’s break them down now. For Health/Fitness you want to write down your goals like Do you need to lose some weight? Drop your blood pressure? Gain weight or build muscle? For me my ultimate goal is weight gain but I just have to get physical again period. My fitness has been in the crapper for years. I bought a yoga mat from Target and I plan on finding a yoga class I can take at home. But finding what your goals are will better help you achieve them in the long run.

Then there’s Finances. Do you have financial goals? Are you primarily interested in reducing your debt? Are you saving for a house or a new car? College? Write out all the things you want to see change in your finances and then work towards that.

Next is Career. What’s your ideal job and salary? Do you have the training and knowledge to accomplish that? Can you get there within your current company or job title? Do you want to be self-employed? Figure out our career goals and write down where you want to be career wise.

Finally, there’s Relationships. Are you happy in your current relationship? Are you single and looking to find the one? How are your friendships going? How are things between your other family members and yourself? Are your work relationships going well? Write out some relationship goals you want to achieve and put those down.

Once you get all of your goals down and in front of you then you can start to work them into a routine that works for you. You want to make sure you’re developing routines around achieving your goals.

Now that we know how to break down and assess our goals. Let’s look into some routines and how to figure one out that works for you.

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.” -Bruce Lee

LOLA: So obviously your daily routine is going to start in the morning. So, a morning routine is what we’re going to start with first. By now we all know that having a good morning helps set the rest of the day. I know when my morning starts off great the rest of my day just kind of glides on by. Like things just seem to go smoother when the morning is set off right. But when my morning starts off like shit then I can pretty much guarantee the rest of my day will be rocky in comparison. So, I know for a fact that I have to get my morning routine right because if it’s off the rest of my days drag.

Most morning routines are haphazardly designed to allow for getting up as late as possible while barely making it on time for whatever it is you have to do that day. Clearly that doesn’t make a successful start to the day when you’re already planning ways to wake up and start your day as late as possible. So, to have a success enhancing morning the first thing you have to do is Get up on time. If you’re routinely late, hit the snooze button a million times (Kevin I’m looking at you) omg idk if it’s just my husband or what but I swear that man will set an alarm and hit the damn snooze button 53 times before he actually gets up. he usually gets up right before I’ve come to terms with my prison sentence in my mind because I murdered him for that damn alarm clock. (I think my chances for an insanity plea will for sure hold up in court, right? lol) Anyway, the point is getting up on time will clearly start your day in the right direction.

You need to start by making sure your alarm is somewhere you have to either sit up and reach or get up to turn it off. You want to make sure you’re up in time enough to do everything you need to before starting your day for work, school, parenting, whatever. You want to give yourself plenty of time to complete your morning routine and setting your alarm appropriately is where to start.

Morning hygiene is the next thing. Are your grooming habits appropriate for your goals? Are you getting up in just enough time to brush your teeth and grab all your stuff to run out the door? I remember I used to literally have to get ready in the car or at work because my routine did not include any self-care time for me. I got up in time enough to get my kids to school and then after that it was worry about me later. But the days that I woke up earlier or I was awake earlier than usual I had plenty of time to do everything I wanted to do and sometimes some extra. I also got places earlier and all that.

Sure, your current routine might be acceptable for your current position or what you’re currently doing every day but does your routine reflect the position of your dreams? When you read books, articles, listen to podcasts, etc. and they’re talking about the person you admire or the woman you see as THAT GIRL, do they have a routine like yours? Are they hitting snooze 17 times before they start the day? Do you wanna avoid being the person that shaves every other day or refuses to give up the hairstyle that went out of style 15 years ago because you don’t want to take the extra time it takes to make yourself presentable? Do you want to brush your teeth and do your make up and your hair and get ready before you walk out the door or would you like to get ready in your car like an influencer on a shoot every day?

Make sure your morning routine has enough time in it to use the bathroom, brush your teeth, get your skincare routine going for the day which my morning skincare routine is a lot less complicated than before because you don’t need to do much in the morning. But anyway, making sure you have enough time pull yourself together for the day actually makes me feel a lot more accomplished in the morning too because I don’t have to stress about whether I look presentable or not if I run into someone or have an emergency or something I have to run out for. I don’t have that extra stress of thinking great now I have to pull myself together for xyz because its already done.

Once you’ve gotten dressed and did your morning hygiene routine then you move on to the next part of the morning. For me in the morning I like to meditate and take the time to say an affirmation or something to bring some positivity in the morning. I also want to start doing yoga in the morning to stretch my body and wake it up and start some sort of physical routine as well. This is also a great time to journal or write down anything that you want to accomplish in the week, things you’re grateful for, and review your goals. You want to sit down and go over your goals as much as possible and kind of review and reflect to make sure you are on the right track. How many times have we said a New Year’s Revolution or something and we forget about it a week later? You want to keep your mind focused on the prize by reviewing them each day.

Then after you’ve done your morning hygiene routine, your manifestation, meditation, and goal reviews or whatever you choose to do in the morning. Then you want to eat breakfast, this is actually hard for me because I’m not a breakfast person I usually start eating during lunchtime. But I’m trying to at least incorporate a fruit and some tea or something in the morning. I’ve cut back on coffee so one cup of coffee a day, some tea, and some fruit. It at least will give me some sort of breakfast fuel to start my day. I definitely still have a love-hate relationship with breakfast but I am working on it.

Once you’ve gotten your morning hygiene routine done, we’ve done our manifestation meditation and we’ve eaten breakfast, now you want to make sure that you have everything you need for the day. Are you waking up kids to get them ready for school are you making lunches are you getting ready for work, do you have a meeting? You want to make sure that you have everything you need to start your day so you want to do a quick check before you know heading out the door or heading into your office. And then just taking one last look in the mirror or whatever going over the checklist this is the time that you want to make sure that you’ve gotten everything that you need to get done in your morning routine so that your day can start off smooth and you aren’t rushing and don’t feel like you’re forgetting something. Most of us have to get ready for work or something several days in a week so optimizing your morning routine is the perfect way to make sure that your routine is supporting your objectives and your goals. Morning routines are definitely the most challenging to change especially if you are stuck in a pandemic rut like myself where your schedule just completely went kaput. But with a really good schedule and routine it is easier for you to outperform the person in the next cubicle so to speak.

If you arrive at work, show up in your business, show up to brunch on time, be present in class, or even just showing up at home with family matters a little better prepared, a little more energetic and cheerful and looking your best it’s always a slight improvement in many areas that can easily make a huge difference. I think small changes over time will improve the likelihood of lasting change if you add one thing to your morning routine until it becomes easier to perform and then it just becomes a habit, that’s how you can build a more successful routine.

So, these are my tips for building your THAT GIRL morning routine. Y’all, know I hate trendy names but that’s what it is. Please just keep in mind that everyone is different and it takes trial and error before you perfect your routine. No one has a perfect routine overnight. This is not a Disney movie. It’s not magic and nobody is coming to save you at the last second. You’ve got to do the work yourself and that means playing around with your routine until it sticks and its working for you. I’m working on so much at the moment. I’m doing a brand overhaul for all of my stuff. Blogging, podcast, digital products. I’m taking the month of January to make sure I have all of my ducks in a row. Next week I’m going to be sharing how to create a work routine. Whether you’re self-employed or you have a boss, making sure you have a great work routine falls right in line with having a good morning routine. If you start your day off right you want to continue on in the day like that and the best way is to have a good work routine.

I want to start ending the podcasts with a positive. So, let’s all think about something were grateful for each week. Don’t try and bs it with like oh I’m grateful for the sun or some shit. Be serious about it. For me I am grateful for ______ this week.

Baby Safety 101 For New Moms

Keeping your baby safe is your number one priority. As a new mom, nothing is more important.

But how can you keep them safe? What do you actually need to do? Here, we take a look. Much of the following advice is just common sense, but some is also unexpected. Check it out below.

Fit A Car Seat

Parents should never carry their babies on their lap in a moving vehicle. Instead, they should strap them into a car seat – a helpful piece of equipment that will protect them if they get into an accident.

Generally, during the first two years of life, car seats should face the rear. Then, when your child gets older, you can purchase front-facing varieties.

Foryourlittleone provides some examples of the types of car seats on the market right now. Some are for babies, while others are for toddlers. When choosing, always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Avoid Burns

Babies are prone to burns. That’s because they don’t know which objects to avoid. Furthermore, they don’t always have the necessary motor control to protect themselves.

Here is some advice:

*Don’t bring hot liquids near your baby. Don’t drink tea or coffee around them
*Don’t use a microwave to heat your baby’s bottle. Microwaves have a tendency to heat bottles unevenly, creating hot patches that can burn
*Don’t increase the temperature on your hot water thermostat too high. If it goes more than around 120 degrees, it runs the risk of scalding your child

Avoid Baby-Related Accidents

There are numerous objects around your home that could potentially harm your baby. Needles, pins, razor blades, coins, glass and mediations could all cause damage. Remove these from accessible areas and keep them under lock and key.

Also, be careful if you use walkers. They are often responsible for children falling down stairs, resulting in thousands of emergency room visits each year.

If you have art on your walls, double check that you attach it securely. If it falls loose, it could cause a serious injury.

Follow Safe Bathing Principles

Babies can drown in as little as two inches of water. Always test bathwater to ensure that it is not too hot before you put your baby in it. Water should be a little more than lukewarm. If the water is too hot, just add some more cold.

Never leave your baby in the bathtub unattended. Babies can drown in just a few seconds, so you must be constantly vigilant.

If you keep electrical appliances in your bathroom, make sure that you store them out of sight in places that your children cannot access. Dryers, radios and hair tongs are all potentially dangerous if they come into contact with water.

Remove Choking Hazards

Lastly, you’ll need to remove choking habits from your baby’s environment. Never place cords or strings around your baby’s neck and, where possible, remove them from your environment. Don’t allow cords for blinds to dangle as children can get caught in them.

If there are any small objects lying around your home, store them in lockboxes.
